Charlie Jones competed at Cooperstown Dreams Park during Week 3 in 2009 with the Highwood Braves Blue (IL).

Charlie graduated from Deerfield High School (Deerfield, IL) where he was a three-year starter on the football field earning All-Conference honors as a junior and senior, named All-Area team as kick return specialist, and earned team MVP honors as a senior.

Charlie first committed to and red shirted at University of Buffalo (Buffalo, NY) in 2017 and played the 2018 season. Prior to the start of 2019, he transferred to University of Iowa (Iowa City, IA) where he first took the field in 2020, earning Honorable Mention All-America return specialist by Phil Steele, first-team All-Big Ten return specialist by Phil Steele, Second-team All-Big Ten return specialist by league coaches, Third-team All-Big Ten return specialist by league media, and Named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week for his play in 49-7 win over Michigan State.  Charlie concluded the 2021 season earning the Brett Greenwood Award, Reggie Roby Special Teams Award (specialist), Rodgers-Dwight Big Ten Return Specialist of the Year, First-team All-Big Ten return specialist by league coaches and media, First-team All-Big Ten kick return specialist by Phil Steele, Second-team All-Big Ten by Associated Press, and Fourth-team All-Big Ten punt return specialists by Phil Steele.

Charlie completed his collegiate football career at Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN) during the 2022 season, helping the team reach the Big Ten championship game.
