Zach Smith competed at Cooperstown Dreams Park in 2002; he was a catcher for the Hornell Raiders (NY) during Week 8.

Zach was a graduate of Hornell High School (Hornell, NY) in 2008 where he was a member of the football and golf teams. Immediately following graduation, he followed his lifelong dream and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. In July of 2009, he married his high school sweetheart, Anne.  He was deployed to Afghanistan in December 2009.

Lance Cpl. Zachary D. “Zach” Smith died in combat on January 24, 2010, while serving his country with C Company, First Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment. Zach was an expert rifleman which put him on the front line.  He was entering a compound and stepped on an IED (improvised explosive device) that claimed his life.  He was awarded the Purple Heart for his selfless actions and bravery.
