The ZT Prospects-Imperial Valley U-12 baseball team showcased their talent at the American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame Invitational Tournament in Cooperstown, N.Y., from July 4-10. Finishing with an impressive 6-2 record, they emerged as strong contenders in the 84-team event. After going 4-1 in their pool games, they achieved a 2-1 record in the single-elimination phase. Manager Renato Montaño expressed pride in their performance, noting their only pool play defeat was to the eventual tournament winners. Highlights included a 21-3 victory over Michigan's Brighton Bulldogs and an overall team batting average of .440. In individual competitions before the pool games, ZT-Prospects-IV's Melky Marquez ranked 10th in the "King of Swat" homerun derby. Montaño remarked on the team's resilience, emphasizing the experience as their biggest stage to date. The team, which includes players who've been together since age five, continues its commitment with year-round training. They're preparing for the U-13 category next year, adapting to bigger fields, before progressing to the U-14 regulation diamond the following year.
