Week #12 N.A.T.C. - Hard 9
(California)
Head Coach: Charles
Chatman
|

Week #
12 August 20-26, 2011
California
Waits for Top Title of 2011 and claims
N.A.T.C.
Championship
It
took twelve weeks for a California team to
win a championship in 2011 as the #13
seeded Hard 9 baseball club from Anaheim
claimed the National American Tournament
of Champions (N.A.T.C.) trophy 12-8 over
the third seeded Eastern Massachusetts All
Stars from Weston, Massachusetts.
It looked as though California teams were
going to have to wait until week #13 or
possibly go the entire 2011 season without
winning at least one championship, which
had never been done in the history of the
Cooperstown Dreams Park, when the Eastern
Massachusetts All Stars jumped out to an
8-0 commanding lead after the first two
innings of play.
E.J. Perry lead the game off with a walk
and Chris Lanzeili hit a lazer into the
left field stands to put the All Stars up
2-0. Paul McGunigle hit a home run to
right field to give the All Stars a 3-0
lead in the first inning. The second
inning was an offensive onslaught for the
All Stars as Perry once again lead off the
inning with a walk, Lanzilli singled and
McGunigle walked to load the bases. Jared
Schuster hit a ground ball to the second
baseman who threw to second base for the
out which scored Perry. Stephen Salisbury
had an RBI single to left field and Kyle
Beaulieu followed with a three run homerun
to put the All Stars ahead 8-0.
Out of nowhere the Hard 9 offense exploded
and scored eight runs in the third inning
to tie the game at 8. Brendan Beck walked,
Ian Meyer singled and Justin McHale
reached on an error to load the bases.
Dailin Lee hit one of his two doubles to
drive in two runs and cut the lead to 8-2.
Kyle Mickelson hit a texas leaguer over
the third baseman which did not allow any
runs to score but did load the bases once
again. Conner Clancy drew a walk and
forced in a run and Nate Flores singled in
a run to put the score at 8-4. With two
outs Brendan Beck stepped up to the plate
and hit a towering grand slam home run to
centerfield which tied the game at 8-8.
The fourth inning was more of the same as
Dailin Lee doubled, Zach Bennett singled
and Kyle Mickelson hit a three run blast
to put Hard 9 ahead 11-8. Ian Meyer hit a
solo homerun in the fifth inning for
insurance and putting Hard 9 up 12-8.
Brendan Beck,Zach Bennett, and Nate Flores
combine to pitch the final four innings of
shutout baseball for Hard 9. Flores was
especially impressive as he came in and
quickly pitched two innings striking out
six of the seven hitters he faced.
Hard 9 was lead by Ian Meyer who was 3 for
3 with a double and a home run, Kyle
Mickelson who was 3 for 4 with a home run
and three rbi's and Brendan Beck who hit
the grand slam which clearly shifted the
momentum and won the game for Hard 9.
Chris Lanzilli, Paul McGunigle, and Kyle
Beaulieu all hit home runs and Stephen
Salisbury added two hits for the Eastern
Massachusetts All Stars.
The #3 seeded All Stars were led by head

Canada, and into the championship game by

Florida 7-1, the #28 James River Renegades
from Virginia 10-3 and the #7 Tomateros De
California/South Bay Dukes from California

the first baseman trying to get Lumpkin at
third sailed into the stands allowing the

|

Week #
9 July 30 - August 5, 2011
A's
make the Grade to Claim Week 9
Championship
If
one were giving out grades for tonight's
championship game, South Oakland lived up
to their name, as the A's from Madison
Heights, Michigan beat the visiting Hit N
Run Highlanders from Poughkeepsie, New
York 15-6 to win the Cooperstown Dreams
Park week #9 championship tournament
played at Little Majors Stadium.
The A's were led by C.J. Drogosch who had
two home runs and seven runs batted in and

as Nick Gastin singled and Tyler Kelder
followed with a two-run blast over the
left center field fence. The South Oakland
A's answered right back as leadoff hitter
Kyle Caltrysse walked, Christian Orr was
hit by a pitch, and just like the Bash
Brothers made famous by the Oakland A's,
C.J Drogosch and Alex Dyke hit
back-to-back home runs to give the A's a
4-2 lead.
The Highlanders scored two more runs in
the 3rd inning as Tyler Kelder leadoff
with a single to left and James Varian was
hit by a pitch. After two strikeouts,
three straight walks were issued to Josh
White, Stephen Schoen, and Skyler Ohrvall
accounting for the runs. The A's countered
with one run in the second inning when
Kyle Caltrysse walked and scored when
Christian Orr doubled to center field and
two more in the third inning as Alex Dyke
reached on an error, Matt Held singled to
center field, Trevor Campbell walked,
Teddy Wujak walked to score Alex Dyke and
Joey Cipriano drove a ball up the middle

making the score 7-4. With two outs in the
fourth inning Alex Dyke singled, went to
second base on a wild pitch and scored on
a single to centerfield by Matt Held
making the score 8-4.
John Cepeda and Connor Clark hit
back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning
and gave the Highlanders a glimmer of hope
as they cut the A's lead to 8-6. The A's
came out in the sixth inning and put to
rest any plans the Highlanders may have
had on winning the game by scoring seven
runs on five hits including a grand slam
to centerfield by C.J. Drogosch making the
score 13-6. Aaron Dyke would hit a two-run
homer to complete the scoring and secure
the championship for the A's.

2011
Week #8 - Beaver Valley Red
(Pennsylvania)
Head Coach: Daniel
Farrow
|

Week #
8 July 23-29, 2011
Week
8 Championship Slugfest Ignites Beaver
Valley Red Victory
Beaver
Valley Red from Beaver Valley,
Pennsylvania proved once again why their
program is one of the best amateur
baseball programs in the nation as they
defeated the South Jersey Young
Guns-Carolina out of Haddenfield, New
Jersey 11-10 in the Cooperstown Dreams
Park championship game at Little Majors
Stadium. This marked the 7th time since
2001 that a Beaver Valley Red team has
claimed the championship.
Beaver Valley wasted no time getting
things going in the first inning when with
one out left fielder Brady Gulakowski was
hit by a pitch and catcher Jake Troutman
launched a towering blast out of the
stadium to give the Red a 2-0 lead. First
baseman Cole Shinsky singled to center and
third baseman Tristen Zimmer followed up
with another two-run home run to put the
Red up 4-0. Right fielder Christian Laffey
walked and shortstop Cade Negley singled
to right field and both advanced on a wild
pitch. If it were not for a spectacular
backhand play by Young Guns shortstop Jake
Catalano and an equally impressive pick
off throw by first baseman Zach Joseph the
Beaver Valley Red would have scored
another two runs in the inning.
Second baseman Dallas Hays took the first
pitch of the second inning out the park
and centerfielder Cory Saus did the same
thing to the first pitch of the 3rd inning
to give the Red what looked to be a
commanding 6-1 lead. The lone Young Gun
run coming on a solo homerun hit by third
baseman Buddy Kennedy in the bottom of the
first inning.
The game was quiet until the 6th inning
when starting pitcher Jacob Fischbaugh
singled to right field. With one out
Gulakowski singled to center field and
Trautman reached on an error which scored
Fischbaugh. Shinsky stepped up to the
plate and hit a lazer into the left field
stands for a three-run home run. Cory Saus
completed the Beaver Valley scoring with a
solo home run to give the Red a 11-1 lead
that looked insurmountable.
The Young Guns reloaded and put together
the best single inning performance of the
2011 season. Second baseman Zach Evans
doubled to left field and third baseman
Buddy Kennedy hit a two-run home run to
make the score 11-3. Zach Joseph singled
and right fielder John Brady hit a long
home run to right field to make the score
11-5. Pinch hitter Sky Duff walked,
catcher Bryce Dixon reached on an error
and both runners advanced. Alexander Dean
hit a ground ball scoring a run. Catalano
and Evans both walked to load the bases
and Kennedy hit a grand slam, his third
home run of the night and seventh run
batted in, to bring the Young Guns to
within one run 11-10. With two outs and
the bases empty Zach Joseph hit a rocket
line drive towards second which Dallas
Hays snagged to end the game and secure
the win for the Beaver Valley Red.
Starting pitcher Jacob Fischbaugh threw
five strong innings for Beaver Valley
giving up just one hit and striking out
five hitters. Young Guns reliever Zach
Evans was equally impressive by pitching 3
2/3 innings and striking out seven
batters. Both teams combined for a total
of ten home runs - 6 for Beaver Valley and
4 for the South Jersey Young
Guns-Carolina.
The 6th seeded Beaver Valley Red, coached

game by defeating the #38 Blue Raiders out
of Hopedale, Maryland 12-0, the #11 So Cal
Outlaws from Chino Hills, California
16-15, the #3 Blue Rocks from Santa
Clarita, California 18-6 and the #18
Nationals Baseball from Birmingham,

Guns defeated the #37 BCC Hurricanes from

Tallahassee Heat from Tallahassee, Florida
13-1, the #4 Dallas Patriots from Dallas,
Texas 14-10 and finally the #9 Virginia
Baysox out of Chesapeake, Virginia 7-3 en
route to the championship game.

teams from twenty-seven states and Canada
during the Week #8 competition.

2011
Week # 7 - Olney Pirates (Maryland)
Head Coach: John
Goodwin
|

Week #
7 July 16-22, 2011
Mensah
Blasts Two Home Runs in Leading Olney
Pirates 8-6 past
Thunder
As
the heat rose in Cooperstown during week
#7, so did the cream of the Cooperstown
Dreams Park championship tournament when
the #1 Agoura Thunder from Agoura Hills,
California met the #2 Olney Pirates from
Olney, Maryland in the championship game
at Little Majors Stadium. The Pirates won
8-6.
It didn't take long for Pirates starting
pitcher Myles Mensah to get things going
as he lifted a towering shot over the
centerfield fence to put the Pirates up
1-0 in the first inning. The second inning
started with walks to Pirates catcher Joey
Goodwin, first baseman Andrew Brown and
left fielder Owen Peters. Thunder pitcher
Michael Fontyn retired the next two
hitters, but third baseman Patrick
Lightner walked with the bases loaded to
push across the second run of the game for
the Pirates a 2-0 lead. With two outs and
the bases loaded Mensah then blasted the
first pitch he saw for a grand slam to
give the Pirates a 6-0 lead. In the third
inning the Pirates added two more runs on
a Randy Bednar single and a two-run home
run by Goodwin to make it an 8-0 game and
the lead that the Pirates would not
relinquish.
The Thunder swung the bats very well as
witnessed by the team's twelve hits and a
number of hard hit outs, but could not get
a timely hit when they needed one. The
Thunder loaded the bases in the 1st, 3rd
and 5th innings but were only able to come
away with a pair of runs in the firth as
catcher Adam Kerner walked, third baseman
Nick Spencer was hit by a pitch and left
fielder Chris Clarke laid down a perfect
bunt for a base hit. After two quick outs
were recorded Matt Wolfe singled into the
hole at shortstop to score the first run
and a miscue by the first baseman allowed
Spencer to score. The Thunder made the
game interesting in the bottom of the
sixth as Kerner drew a walk with two outs,
Spencer singled and Chris Clarke belted a
three-run home run to right field to bring
the final score to 8-6.
Myles Mensah had three hits including two
home runs and five runs batted in. Joey
Goodwin and Randy Bednar each had two hits
for the Pirates. Nick Spencer and Chris
Clarke had three hits apiece. Adam Kerner
and Jonathan Deluca had two hits each for
the Thunder. Matt Wolfe provided the
pitching highlight of the night by
pitching the fifth and sixth innings for
the Thunder while striking out six
hitters.
The Pirates coached by John Goodwin got to
the championship game by defeating the #34
Diamonds Black Angels of Michigan 15-2,
the #15 McHenry County Hurricanes from
Illinois 10-4, the #10 Lonestar Cougars of
Texas 8-6 and the #6 Harrisburg Junior
Senators from Pennsylvania 13-5. The Eric
Kerner coached Thunder beat the #32
Severna Park Green Hornets of Maryland
6-1, the #17 Pittsburgh Jaguars from
Pennsylvania 14-2, the #8 Wasco Wildcats
of Illinois 4-3 and the #4 Louisiana Rip
Seniors from Louisiana 7-3.
The championship tournament played host to
102 teams from twenty-five states and
Canada.

2011
Week #6 - Tennessee Naturals
(Tennessee)
Head Coach: Chris
Ellis
|

Week #
6 July 9-15, 2011
Tennessee
Pitching Dominant for Championship
Tennessee
Naturals starting pitcher Lathon
Whittington pitched four innings while
striking out seven hitters en route to the
4-3 victory over the visiting Louisianna
Force in the week #6 Cooperstown Dreams
Park championship game played at Little
Majors Stadium. Whittngton retired the
first six hitters he faced. His only
miscue came on a leadoff walk to Louisiana
Force first baseman Tyler Singletary which
was followed by a two-run home run by
catcher Kevin Stretzinger in the third
inning.
The Tennesse Naturals jumped out to a 3-0
lead in the first as Trace Lindeman laid
down a perfect bunt single and moved to
second as Steven Jennings was awarded
first base on catchers interference.
Whittington loaded the bases with a single
to left. Naturals firstbaseman Dawson
Hamilton and centerfielder Seth Gardner
both hit sacrfice fly's to score Lindeman
and Jennings. Pinch runner Chandler Sulcer
scored the third run of the inning on an
errant throw from the outfield on the
Gardner fly ball. Tennessee would score
one more run in the fifth inning which
would turn out to be the crucial winning
run as Jennings, Whittington, and Hamilton
all singled to load the bases and Jennings
scored on a wild pitch.
Billy Creger came on in relief of
Whittington for the Naturals in the fifth
inning and struck out the side. The sixth
inning started with the fourth strikeout
in a row by Creger, but a single to left
field by centerfielder Daniel Cabrera, a
two out single by Austin North and Stephen
Sepcich was hit by a pitch to load the
bases for the Force with two outs. Tyler
Tarrh hit a soft pop up to the first
baseman which looked like the third out,
but it somehow spun out of the glove and
allowed a run to score and left the bases
loaded. With the standing room only crowd
on its feet Creger delivered a 2-2
fastball past the swinging Singletary to
record his sixth strikeout and earn the
save and the win for the Naturals.
Tyler Tarrh pitched much better than his
fate as he went five innings giving up two
earned runs and allowing only one
walk.
The road to the championship, which was
comprised of 104 teams from twenty-eight
states and two representatives from
Canada, was a hard fought battle for both
the Louisianna Force from Mandeville,
Louisianna and the Tennessee Naturals from
Shelbyville, Tennessee.
The Force, coached by Michael Sepcich, got
to the championship game by defeating the
#30 Franklin Heat out of Tennessee, the
#55 Elkridge Hurricanes from Maryland, the
#11 Scorpion Baseball from Georgia nad the
#2 Mac-N-Seitz Indians from Kansas. The
Chris Ellis coached Naturals championship
run included victories over the #33
Virginia Crush from Virginia, the #16
Tampa Bay Bulls from Florida, the #8 Blaze
Baseball from Ohio and the #4 3N2 Bombers
also from Florida.

2011
Week #5 - Huntsville Baseball Club
(Alabama)
Head Coach: Charlie
Rogers
|

Week #
5 July 2-8, 2011
Huntsville
Baseball Club Steals Victory away from
Team U.S.A.
Little
Majors Stadium at Cooperstown Dreams Park
was the place to be on Thursday night as
the Huntsville Baseball Club from Alabama
defeated the visiting Team U.S.A. from
Tampa, Florida 11-9 in arguably the most
exciting championship game of the season.
Huntsville Head Coach Charlie Rogers said
pitching, baserunning, defense and
mental toughness are the strengths of the
club. It was the baserunning that
proved to be the difference in the game as
Huntsville racked up seven stolen bases
including a pivotal steal of home plate in
the second inning to tie the game 7-7.
Team U.S.A jumped out to a 2-0 lead as
Graham Hoffman hit a two out, two-run home
run. Huntsville, in the manner of a
heavyweight championship fight, counter
punched by manufacturing three runs in the
bottom half of the first inning lead by
Reid Powers who had a two out, two RBI
single to give Huntsville a 3-2 lead. Team
U.S.A answered right back with four hits
in the second inning including a three-run
home run by Ethan Thomas which swung the
momentum clearly over to Team U.S.A and
put them back on top 7-3.
Momentum can sometimes be a little fickle
and most certainly was on this night as
the Huntsville Baseball Club put the first
five hitters of the inning on base with
four hits, a walk and with two outs and
the score 7-6 in favor of Team U.S.A. as
Collin Rogers stole home to tie the game.
Momentum shifted back to the Huntsville
Baseball Club as they came right back with
four runs in the third inning lead by Reid
Powers who hit a two-run blast and Glen
Whitaker who had a single and an RBI.
Anthony Cassos and Thomas let the crowd
know that Team U.S.A was not going to go
down without a fight as both homered in
the fourth inning but that proved to be
the last runs they would score in the 11-9
loss.
Brett Barbee provided the pitching
highlight of the night as he pitched the
first three innings for the Huntsville
Baseball Club and left the mound with an
11-9 lead. He was once again called on in
the 6th inning to get the last two outs of
the game and seal the victory for
Huntsville. For Barbee he picked up the
win and also the save!
The Huntsville Baseball Club defeated the
#71 Chain Dirtdawgs of Georgia 8-1, #15
Futures Baseball of Texas 11-5, #10
All-Star Bombers of Florida and the #14
O.C. Thunder of California en route to the

2011
Week #4 - East Cobb Titans (Georgia)
Head Coach: Chris
Mielnicki
|

Week #
4 June 25-30, 2011
East
Cobb Secures 12U Championship for the
State of Georgia
for Third Week in a
Row
On a
cool, clear night inside Little Majors
Stadium at Cooperstown Dreams Park it took
just one pitch to heat things up as the
East Cobb Titans from Marietta, Georgia
defeated the visiting Clifton Park Knights
of New York 5-2 to win the week #4
Cooperstown Dreams Park championship
tournament.
The Knights shortstop Kevin Huerter took
the first pitch of the game from Titans
starter Justin Fields deep over the left
field wall for a solo home run.
Unfortunately for the Knights that would
be the only run that Fields would allow in
four innings of four hit ball while
striking out three batters on his way to
the win. Weston Bizzle came on in relief
for the Titans in the 5th inning striking
out the first four hitters he faced and
five overall while allowing only a single
run in the 6th inning.
Rightfielder Chaz Wittingham provided the
offense for the Titans going 2 for 3 with
two home runs and two RBI's. Grayson
Harbin added a solo home run in the first
and later reached on an error, stole
second and scored on a line drive single
to centerfield by Bizzle.
The Knights who had won four games en
route to the chamionship game by virtue of
a walk off home run looked to make late
game magic once again in the top half of
the sixth. With one out Mike Spulnick
walked, Nik Malachowski singled to
rightfield and Mike Jeffers followed with
an rbi single to rightfield but Bizzle
struck out Payton Johnson and Ian Anderson
hit a soft groundball to third baseman
Harbin who stepped on the bag to end the
game.
This marked the third time in a three
weeks that a team from the state of
Georgia had claimed the weekly
championship since the RBI Rangers of
Tennessee won the week #1
championship.
The Titans and the Knights both posted
10-0 records in tournament and regular
schedule play which featured 104 teams
from twenty-seven states and a team from
Canada on their way to the championship
game. The Titans, coached by Chris
Mielnicki, defeated the #35 Cincinnati
Riverbats from ohio 18-11, the #19 Texas
ARaider from Texas 12-1, the #6 St. Lucie
Mets out of Florida 14-7 and the #2
Charlotte Megastars from North Carolina
14-7 to get to the Championship game.
Equally as impressive were the Knights
from Clifton Park, New York and coached by
Tom Huerter as they beat the #21 Mavericks
from California, the #5 Charlotte
Hurricanes from North Carolina, the #13
Caldwell Spartans of North Carolina and
the Cooper City Cowboys from Florida.

2011
Week #3 - 6-4-3 DP Cougars (Georgia)
Head Coach: Danny
Pralgo
|

Week #
3 June 18-24, 2011
Goede
Proves to be the Go To Guy in
Shutout Victory
for 6-4-3 DP
Cougars
Rylan
Goede threw four innings of no-hit
baseball to lead the 6-4-3-DP Cougars from
Marietta, Georgia to a 5-0 win over the
visiting Beaver Valley Reds from Beaver
Valley, Pennsylvania in the 10&U
championship game. Throwing strikes,
playing good defense and keeping Beaver
Valley from having a big inning will be
the keys to us winning said head
coach Danny Pralgo in the pre-game
interview and he proved to be on
target.
Pralgo could not have asked for a more
masterful performance as Goede faced just
two batters over the minimum, both walks,
and struck out five giving the Cougars the
pitching performance that Pralgo knew he
needed to beat a tough Beaver Valley
team.
With a 5-0 lead in the 4th inning and
Goede in total command with a no hitter in
tact Pralgo made a pitching change.
I knew he (Goede) had a no-hitter
going, but he had thrown enough pitches
and this kid has a bright future in front
of him so I made the right decision and
did the right thing. The right
thing turned out to be relief
pitcher Kurtis Royalty who came in and
pitched two scoreless innings and secured
the victory for the Cougars.
The Cougars got a hit from eight of the
ten starters with the big inning coming in
the bottom of the 2nd inning. With two
outs Drew Miller, Luke DiPiero, Max
Pralgo, Ross Malmgren and Kyle Gray strung
together five straight hits scoring four
runs and for all intents and purposes
putting the game away.
The Beaver Valley Reds made an impressive
run at the Week #3 championship title by
defeating the #18 Cheshire Reds from
Cheshire, Connecticut., the #4 Florida
Pokers out of Coral Springs, Florida, #5
Kings Baseball from The Woodlands, Texas
and the #1 ranked Santa Ynez Titans from
California. The Cougars had a great week
as they knocked off the team that everyone
thought was going to walk away with the
championship. The Beaver Valley program
has won the 12U championship six times at
Cooperstown Dreams Park and won a national
championship, "but win or lose, having our
10 year old group be in this game is the
greatest thing that this program has
achieved said head coach Brian Smith
just minutes before the championship
game.
The 6-4-3 DP Cougars got to the
championship game by defeating the #36 SGV
Cobras from South Pasadena, California,
the #16 Team Mizuno out of Houston, Texas,
the #10 San Diego Stars North from San
Diego, California and the #20 and
pre-tournament favorite LaMorinda Spartans
from Walnut Creek, California.
The week #3 10U championship at
Cooperstown Dreams Park tournament saw 83
teams from twenty states competing for the
title.

2011
Week #2 Champions - Bandits Baseball
(Georgia)
Head Coach: Troy
Roberson
|

Week
#2 June 11-17, 2011
Bandits
Gun Down Outlaws 12-0 to Win
Championship.
On a
perfect night for baseball in Cooperstown,
left handed pitcher Tucker Bradley flirted
with perfection of his own for three and
two thirds innings as Bandits Baseball of
Ringgold, Georgia defeated the Memphis
Outlaws from Eads, Tennessee 12-0 in the
week #2 championship game.
There was an excitement and a buzz felt
throughout the standing room only crowd at
Cooperstown Dreams Park's Little Majors
Stadium created by the electric
performance of Bradley as he struck out
the first six Memphis Outlaws hitters of
the game. He also mowed down ten of the
first eleven hitters, before finally
giving up a single to Hayden Leatherwood
of the Outlaws, which passed just under
the glove of a diving shortstop, Gavin
Roberson, with two outs in the third
inning. Bradley finished the game with
twelve strikeouts while allowing just one
hit and one walk to secure the victory and
the championship for the Bandits.
Equally as impressive on the offensive
side for the Bandits was first baseman
Chaney Rogers, who opened the scoring with
a two-run home run in the first inning and
followed it up with a towering grand slam
in the second inning which gave the
Bandits an 8-0 lead. After manufacturing
one run in the third inning, Lee Kay lead
off the fifth inning with a Bandits
double. Kobie Cowan worked Outlaws relief
pitcher Dreeser Winn for a walk and third
baseman Cole Shelton came to the plate to
finish off the game with a walk-off
three-run blast to give the Bandits the
final margin of victory.
After compiling a 6-0 record through the
regular schedule of games, head coach Chip
Pleasant guided the Memphis Outlaws
through an impressive road to the
championship game by beating #37 Gamewear
Nationals of Florida 11-8, #12 So Cal
Terror of California 12-4, #13 Miami
Titans out of Florida 15-2 and a 13-1 win
over the #1 ranked West Pines Cobras of
Florida.

coach Troy Roberson, also went 6-0 through
the regular schedule and had wins over #74
Orland Park Magic from Illinois 12-0, #14
West Boynton Cobras of Florida 17-2, #6
Lamorinda Diablos of California 10-2 and a
23-6 win over the Rocket City Roadrunners
from Alabama.
A
total of 104 teams from twenty-two states
were represented for the week #2 action at
Cooperstown Dreams Park.

2011
Week #1 - Tennessee RBI Rangers
(Tennessee)
Head Coach: Billy
Anderson
|

Week #
1 June 4-10, 2011
Upset
Starts 2011 Season as the Tennessee
Rangers Claim the
Title
The
sixteenth season at Cooperstown Dreams
Park started with some key home runs and
great pitching as the #19 Tennessee RBI
Rangers from Knoxville, Tennessee won the
week 1 championship. They defeated the # 4
seeded South Florida Orphans 8 to 5. After
a big offensive second inning by both
clubs where they combined to score nine of
the thirteen runs Rangers pitcher David
Beam outlasted the Orphans to seal the
victory with 4 scoreless innings and the
victory for the June 9th, 2011 opener.
The bright lights and roaring crowd in
Little Majors Stadium did not seem to
bother either team as the Rangers started
off the offense with a four-run second
inning lead by Justen Freeman solo home
run to right field. The South Florida
Orphans from Vero Beach, Florida fought
back with five runs in the bottom of the
second lead by Koa MacDougall and Mike
Dean's back-to-back home runs. Noll Davis
would also add to the Orphans scoring with
a home run giving them a 5-4 lead after
two innings. David Beam, the starting and
winning pitcher for the RBI Rangers,
answered back quickly in the top of the
third blasting a home run. The Tennessee
team would never look back. Two costly
errors in the fourth inning would help the
Rangers seal the victory with two
additional runs. Beam pitched the last
four innings holding the Orphans scoreless
while giving up only one hit and striking
out nine. For the game Beam allowed only
five hits while striking out eleven.
Other notable highlights from the game
included: Stokes Needham going 2-3 with
one run scored for the Rangers. R.J.
Sheltra for the RBI Rangers would help put
his team on top with a home run of his own
in the bottom of the second and Nate
Hinkley provided some superb relief
pitching for South Florida. He gave up two
earned runs while striking out five and
walking none in the four and two-thirds
innings that he worked.
For the Tennessee RBI Rangers from
Knoxville managed by Billy Anderson it was
not an easy road to get to the
championship game. They had victories
over: #46 Edwardsville Tigers of Illinois
15-2, #14 Helena Wildcats from Alabama
16-3 and three straight heavy hitting
Florida teams: #3 North Palm Beach
Witecaps 10-6, #6 South Florida Sandlot
14-8 and a big win over the #2 SWFL Team
Xtreme 13-10. Unlike the Rangers, the
South Florida Orphans, managed by Miguel
Cruz, relied on pitching throughout the
tournament to get them past the #74
Nashville Prospects of Tennessee 13-2, #45
Regulators Baseball of Florida 6-5, the
#12 West Boca Panthers from Florida 4-2
and the #8 Riverside Riot Baseball of
California 9-7.
The week #1 extravaganza provided the 103
teams from twenty-two states a great
opportunity to enjoy baseball at its
finest with plenty of sunshine and warm
days at the home of baseball in
Cooperstown, New York.
