Week #7 Champions - Miami Force (Miami,
Florida)
Manager: Ronnie Young
|

Week
#7 July 19-25, 2008
Home Run Fest Rules
Championship
|A
massive power display produced another
Cooperstown Dreams Park champion as the #3
Miami Force defeated the #1 Thibodaux
Terror by a score of 15 to 4. The visiting
Force from Miami, Florida got off to a
very early start against the Terror as
they scored 6 runs in the opening inning.
Danny Cepeda started the first inning
rally with a single, followed by James
Harbuck's single. After a wild pitch and a
balk, the Force were up 1 to 0 until Joey
Starling's fielder's choice scored another
run. Hernando Sierra followed that with
his first of three home runs. This two-run
shot made the score 4 to 0. Brandon
Leohner walked and was then brought in by
Ramon Quintero's two-run home run. The
Terror answered in the first inning with a
homerun by Scottie Sanders off of Ramon
Quintero, who recorded the victory. The
Force would do the same kind of damage in
the second inning, scoring another 6 runs
on four home runs hit by James Harbuck
(solo), Joey Starling (two-run), Hernando
Sierra (solo), and another one by Ramon
Quintero (two-run). The Force then
continued the onslaught in the third
inning, scoring another 3 runs on Hernando
Sierra's third home run of the game. The
Terror answered in the bottom half of the
third inning: Christian Volion and Scottie
Sanders began the third hitting
back-to-back homeruns. Sam Houston was
then brought in on Hunter Trahan's
bases-loaded walk. That would cap off the
scoring in the game as both teams then had
shut-down relief appearances by some very
fine pitchers; the Terror's Rusty Guidry
and Christian Volion did their best to
cool off the Force's bats while James
Harbuck and Joey Starling were lights-out
for the remainder of the game for the
Force. A total of nine home runs were hit
by both teams in the Week #7
championship.
The #1 Thibodaux Terror from Thibodaux,
Louisiana, coached by Scott Sanders,
rolled through the competition on their

recording a complete game victory. The
Canes started the scoring in the top of
the first inning as Carlos Cartaya Jr.,

Week #4 Champions - New York Outlaws (New
York)
Manager: Ken Honce
|

Week
#4 June 28 - July 4, 2008
#1 New York Reins Supreme for
Championship
After
a stirring flag folding ceremony by
members of the Milford, New York American
Legion Post 1566 and a spectacular Pre-4th
of July fireworks demonstration a packed
house at Cooperstown Dreams Park saw an
exciting Week #4 Championship Game which
pitted the #1 New York Outlaws from Long
Island against the #2 East Cobb Stallions
of Marietta, Georgia. New York reined
supreme with a 3 to 0 victory. The two
starters, Justin Dunn for the Outlaws and
south paw Andrew Maxwell for the
Stallions, matched each other inning for
inning until the Outlaws scored the first
run of the game in the bottom of the
fourth as Matt Vogel was off and running
on the pitch and scored from second base
on a perfect sacrifice bunt by Johnathan
Tenaglia. Pat Madigan put the game away in
the bottom of the fifth inning for the
Outlaws, hitting a two-run home run off of
Chase Sloan to finish out the scoring. The
lack of any strong offensive output by
both teams is a testament to the quality
of pitching both teams had. Justin Dunn
pitched 4 2/3 innings for the Outlaws,
allowing no runs while striking out four
batters. He was relieved by right hander
Matt Vogel in the bottom of the fourth
inning. Vogel, who was dominant on his way
to recording the victory, pitched 2 1/3
innings, allowing no runs and striking out
seven batters. The pitching of the East
Cobb Stallions was nearly as good; Andrew
Maxwell started the game and pitched four
strong innings, allowing one run while
striking out seven batters. He was
relieved by Chase Sloan who, with the
exception of the Madigan's two-run homer
in the fifth, pitched very well also,
striking out one Outlaw batter.
The top seeded New York Outlaws from Long
Island, New York were coached by Ken
Honce. They had to beat some quality teams
on its way to the Week #4 Championship
Game. The Outlaws first defeated the #33
Emmorton Eagles of Bel Air, Maryland, for
a chance to advance to face the #68 Wills
Park Panthers of Alpharetta, Georgia, whom
they also beat. In the quarter-finals the
Outlaws defeated the #9 Naples Mustangs of
Naples, Florida. They then went on to
defeat the #5 Westlake Coyotes of
Westlake, California, in the semifinals
for a chance to compete for the Week #4
Championship. The #2 East Cobb Stallions
of Marietta, Georgia, coached by Scott
Pederson, took a similar path to the
Championship Game, first beating the #34
Sandy Plains Wildcats of Marietta,
Georgia, to open elimination play. They
then went on to defeat the #18 McDowell
Mud Dogs of Marion, North Carolina, to
move on to the quarter-finals. In that
round they defeated the #10 North Carolina
Baseball Academy of Greensboro, North
Carolina. Finally, the Stallions defeated
the #3 Kentucky Rockers of Versailles,
Kentucky, in the semifinals to stage the
meeting with the New York Outlaws, setting
up an exciting game that boosted the two
top seeds for the Week #4
Championship.

South Florida Tsunami Prevail in a Week #3
Thriller
In a
game that began as a pitcher's duel but
became more of a power showcase, the South
Florida Tsunami defeated the Germantown
Giants of Tennessee by a score of 5-3 in
the Week #3 Championship Game at
Cooperstown Dreams Park. In spite of a
leadoff homerun hit by Jonathan Phipps of
the Giants, Tsunami starter Dash
Winningham kept himself composed and
dominated the Giants hitters for the
remainder of the game, striking out 12 en
route to a complete game victory. Phipps,
who started for the Giants, was able to
answer Winningham inning for inning,
shutting out the Tsunami until the bottom
of the third when their bats awoke for 1
run on 3 hits to tie the game. The Giants
took the lead again in the top of the
fourth inning as Montel Johnson hit a solo
homerun. The Tsunami answered in the
bottom of the fourth inning with 4 runs on
3 hits, highlighted by back-to-back
homeruns hit by Luis Corrales and Isaias
Jasso, to take the lead for good. The
Giants fought to the end, however, as they
scored one more run in the top half of the
sixth inning and managed to have the tying
run on second base with two outs before
Winningham closed out the game with a
strike out.
The
#6 seed Germantown Giants of Germantown,
Tennessee, coached by Mike Fitzsimmons,
battled throughout the tournament to get a
chance to play in the Championship Game,
beating the #27 seed Motor City Hit Dogs

Week #2 (10 & Under) Champions
Leon Medical Center Baseball Team
(Florida)
Manager: Humberto
Bencomo
|
Week
#2 June 14 - 20 , 2008
The Rivalry
Revisited
Two teams with a
recent history of competitive games in
their home town of Miami, Florida found
themselves facing off in the Week #2 (10
& Under) Championship Game at
Cooperstown Dreams Park on a chilly
Thursday night, June 19th , in
Cooperstown.. In a lopsided victory, the
#5 seed Leon Medical Center Baseball Team
defeated the #10 seed Miami Playmakers
with strong pitching, solid defense and an
extremely potent offensive attack in
the11-2 victory. Pitcher Clayton
Kwiatkowski started the game for Leon
Medical Center, walking two batters and
allowing one single to load the bases.
Juan Hillman, having already thrown sixty
pitches in a 6-0 victory in the
quarterfinals, was brought in to relieve
Kwiatkowski and quickly pitched himself
out of the jam, striking out the first
five batters he faced. Catcher Zachary
Roberts started the offensive onslaught
for Leon Medical Center with a three-run
homerun in the bottom of the first inning.
William Aguilar followed this with a
two-run homer of his own in the bottom of
the third, but the flood gates truly
opened in the bottom of the fourth inning
as Leon Medical Center exploded for six
runs. Not going down without a fight, the
Miami Playmakers were able to stop the
bleeding and end Leon Medical Center's
offense behind good relief pitching by
Reynaldo Rivera. Eli Marrero was very
strong behind the plate for the
Playmakers, throwing out runners at both
second and third for timely outs, putting
dents in Leon Medical Center's momentum.
Rivera also came up with a big hit in the
top of the sixth inning, connecting for a
two run single and putting a stop to Leon
Medical Center's bid for a shutout.

(Nevada)
Manager: Tim McCollum
|

Week
#1 June 7 - 13 , 2008
Battery
Mates Key Wildcat Victory
Two heavy hitting
teams found it tough to get by some
outstanding pitching in the opening
championship game for 2008 at Cooperstown
Dreams Park. The Thursday, June 12th
thriller found the Nevada Wildcats
defeating the favored Team Miami 2-1 with
the game featuring outstanding pitching,
great fielding and a couple of early home
runs that proved to be the difference. The
star of the game was Michael Blasko of
Nevada. Blasko struck out 12 Team Miami
players and gave up only two hits in the
complete game victory. He also gave the
Wildcats their first run with a bases
empty home run in the first inning.
Catcher Joshua McCollum provided the
winning run with a home run in the second
inning. The Team Miami run came in the
second inning on back to back walks, a hit
batsman and a wild pitch as Anthony
Gonzales scored making it 2-1 which stood
up the rest of the way. Ricky Marrero
started for Team Miami and was relieved in
the fourth inning by Spencer Levine. Both
pitchers pitched well with Marrero giving
up only two hits, both home runs, in his
three innings of play and Levine only
giving up one Wildcat hit in his three
innings on the mound. Team Miami came into
the championship with a 116-0 record and
had a shot in the final inning to win it
with the bases loaded and two men out but
couldn't manager to drive in the runs.

Nevada, managed by Tim McCollum, the
